There is a set of rules put forth by the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), which must be strictly followed by every company, who offers a zip line ride. The companies will be inspected by a qualified person every year, and the ACCT will issue approval only to those companies, who follow the laws strictly.

So, make sure you are zip lining with a company who is approved by ACCT. Before zip lining, enquire whether your provider is ACCT certified and also check if regular inspections are done on the zipline kit used there.

Gear and Gadgets

Participants who wish to zip line must use a safety harness to protect their body. The harness will be connected to the overhead cable, through which the participant rides the line. Make sure that a well-trained and qualified instructor clips the harness to the overhead cable.

Some companies may ask you to wear helmets before zip lining, while some may not. However, wearing helmets are highly recommended here, as they offer added protection to your head. Also, make sure to dress in comfortable clothing while you are zip lining.


Many zip line courses have hand breaks. These protective measures allow the user to reduce the speed during zip lining. Make sure that the course you choose has hand breaks installed in them. This will make you comfortable and allow give your more control over the activity.

Another important factor to keep in mind is that zip lining is not suitable for everyone – if you have any health problems such as neck or back pain, seizures, dizziness, high blood pressure, heart problems, or severe fear of heights, then you should restrain yourself from this outdoor activity. However, the factors such as weight, age, and health conditions are different for each zip line course.
